An Iguana named Bob
Harbor & Bob
I like iguanas because they’re cute, cuddly and squishy. They’re really cool and I don’t know why people are scared of reptiles. I am now known at Shelter Bay Marina as the kid who captured an iguana.
So let’s start off from here, his name is BOB! Now, I am going to tell you the story of how Riley and I captured an iguana. Riley came by our boat like normal at 8 am and he wanted to capture an iguana. We made a contraption kind of like what animal control uses to catch stray animals. It was a long stick with a slipknot on the end of it. Bob was sun basking and he wasn’t moving because it was cold outside. And I said we should just grab it but he said he wanted to use the homemade snare. Riley grabbed it by the mouth using the snare. I then grabbed it from behind. If felt a little scaly and very cold. It relaxed against my skin because it liked the body heat. But when Riley picked it up, it scratched him, probably because he had a shirt on and held it away from his body. Iguanas like body heat.
We walked around the boat yard showing everyone that we caught a wild iguana. Lots of workers and people stopped to take pictures of us holding Bob, we were really famous!
Sadly my mom made us put him back. However, later in the day Riley and I checked on him but Riley had a different idea, he wanted to show his grandparents. So he picked him up but unfortunately he held him by the stomach and it pushed on his stomach and he didn’t seem well. Again my mom made us put him back on the ground and leave him alone. We hope he made it back to his home.

It is hard making new friends and them leaving. I met Riley one night at the marina when my friend Seamus was visiting. We all ran around like crazy. It’s fun to have friends at the marina. Marina life can be boring.
